Customised Employment

A person-centred approach to employment

We believe everyone should have the chance to make a meaningful contribution to the community through employment.

Customised Employment is a person-centred strategy for securing and sustaining integrated community-based employment opportunities, including self-employment.

While it is applicable to all people with experience barriers to work, it is particularly suited to individuals with significant or complex disability.

It operates on the premise of identifying and leveraging each individual’s strengths, abilities and interests.

This approach is meticulously crafted to align job seekers’ strengths, abilities and interests with potential employers’ specific business needs.

Through tailored strategies, both the employer and the employee receive personalised support, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.

Inclusive and strengths based

Our Customised Employment program is designed to create inclusive, person-centred job opportunities for people with disability, focusing on strengths, interests, and the unique value each person brings.

Through this model, we help you discover your potential and build fulfilling careers, while supporting businesses to diversify their workforce and foster inclusive practices.

Customised Employment tailors a job or self-employment (including microenterprise) to fit the interests, contributions and conditions for success of you, while also meeting the needs of a business or the market for a product or service.

Customised Employment starts by thinking about the person, NOT the job.

It is a negotiated relationship that starts with the skills you have and looks to meet a specific area of benefit to employers – meaning it is mutually beneficial for a business and for you, the Job Seeker.

Customised Employment starts with the strong fundamental principle that everyone can work in typical, paid employment; however, people with complex disabilities are often disadvantaged by traditional job-seeking practices.

So this approach looks at the contributions you can make, rather than comparing you to others.
