Opening Doors Project
Our Opening Doors Project builds homes for people with disability. It supports people who require assistance 24 hours a day and we use innovative technology and housing solutions to enable a more independent life. To date, Our Opening Doors Projects have built 3 homes and 12 units, supporting 22 people with disability to live with greater independence and inclusion within their community.
We are currently fundraising to purchase a block of land for our next build.
In December 2023, we completed the building of 2 units on Spoonbill Street in Moama. Watch this video to see what can be achieved when a community comes together to build homes for people with disability.
Generosity Multiplied – The Power of Giving

Opening Doors โ Barry Street Project โ David
David moved into his new home at Barry Street in Echuca and is enjoying living in the accessible new unit. When asked what he enjoyed most about his new home, he said, โI like it. I like the garden, I like going for walks, and playing with lego and I do craftโฆโ
Throughout the design and construction of the units at Barry Street, CLRS engaged directly with members of the local disability community to ensure the homes were built with the end-users in mind. 2 โUser Groupsโ were formed, which consisted of clients, family members of clients, and local people with disability. Leah Taaffe (CLRS CEO) says, โThe idea of the User Groups is to provide a level of insight that weโve not had before. Itโs a personal insight, which allows us to ensure weโre designing these units to suit the needs of the people who โฆ live in them.โ
This level of personal detail allows clients to enjoy the things they love most. For David, having a veggie patch was essential. When asked about his veggie patch, David said, โโฆ Iโve got a veggie patch with tomatoes, cabbage, corn and roses โ Iโve got two out thereโ.
